Belgium’s national hockey teams enjoyed an impressive opening block of the 2025–26 FIH Pro League season in Dublin, with both the Red Panthers (women) and Red Lions (men) delivering strong performances that underline their ambitions on the international stage.
Red Panthers: A perfect campaign
The Red Panthers completed a flawless four-match campaign, securing four wins from four and collecting the maximum 12 points against England and Ireland. While not always spectacular, the Belgian women demonstrated efficiency, defensive solidity, and the ability to manage key moments under pressure.
Their performances highlighted a balanced squad capable of winning in different ways, whether through controlled dominance or resilience in tighter contests. The team’s defensive consistency and composure in decisive phases were particularly notable.
With this perfect start, the Panthers leave Dublin full of confidence and firmly positioned among the world’s top hockey nations. The stakes are especially high this season, as the winner of the Pro League secures direct qualification for the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Red Lions: Strong momentum continues
The Red Lions also made an excellent start, earning three wins and one draw from their four matches, to collect 10 points out of a possible 12. Their Dublin campaign came shortly after lifting the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia, reinforcing the team’s positive momentum.
The Belgian men displayed attacking efficiency, defensive structure, and collective maturity throughout the tournament. Even when faced with more challenging moments, they showed the ability to respond quickly and assert their dominance.
Closing the Irish block at the top end of the standings, the Red Lions also climbed to second place in the FIH world rankings, further confirming Belgium’s consistent presence among the sport’s elite.
A clear message to the competition
With both teams delivering convincing performances in Dublin, Belgium has made a strong statement at the start of the 2025–26 Pro League season. The Olympic qualification incentive adds further intensity to the campaign, and the early results suggest that both the Red Panthers and Red Lions will be serious contenders as the season progresses.
