Red Panthers Remain Top After Strong Spanish Stage In Valencia

The Belgian Red Panthers have completed the Spanish stage of the 2025–26 FIH Hockey Pro League in Valencia with another convincing display of consistency and ambition. Over four matches against Spain and Germany, Belgium secured three wins and suffered one narrow defeat, finishing the stage with 9 points out of 12 and maintaining first place in the provisional standings, level on points with the Netherlands.

A flying start in Valencia

Belgium opened the Spanish stage in impressive fashion with a commanding victory over host nation Spain. After a balanced opening phase, the Panthers accelerated decisively and showed attacking sharpness to take control of the game (3-5). The performance highlighted the team’s offensive depth and confidence, as well as their ability to capitalize on key moments.

They followed up with a strong win against Germany. In a more competitive encounter, Belgium demonstrated resilience and tactical discipline, regaining control after Germany had fought back. A clinical final quarter secured a deserved 3-1 victory and extended the Panthers’ flawless run in the Pro League to 18 points out of 18 at that stage.

First points dropped and immediate Response

The third match of the stage, a second meeting with Spain, proved more challenging. Despite dominating possession and creating several opportunities, Belgium struggled to convert their chances against a well-organised Spanish defence. Spain capitalised on a counterattack to secure a narrow win, handing the Panthers their first loss (1-0) of the Pro League season after six consecutive victories.

The response, however, was immediate and mature. In their final match against Germany, the Panthers delivered a disciplined and patient performance. Although the game lacked fluency at times, Belgium remained persistent and eventually found the decisive breakthrough in the second half. They then controlled the closing stages with authority to seal a 1-0 victory.

Leaders at this stage of the season

With three wins from four matches in Valencia, the Red Panthers conclude the Spanish stage of the Pro League at the top of the provisional standings. Their campaign combined attacking efficiency, defensive organisation and mental resilience particularly in their ability to bounce back immediately after their first setback of the season.

The decisive phase of the 2025–26 Pro League will take place in June at the brand new Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, where the final standings will be determined. Based on their performances in Valencia, Belgium have once again confirmed their status as one of the leading contenders this season.
